Data Backup and Recovery

Four developments to consider:

  1. The amount of data stored by businesses is increasing significantly.  A typical midsize American company has seen its volume of stored data increase from 2 terabytes to 100 terabytes in the last three years.
(source: recent study by research firm TheInfoPro Inc. in Redwood City, Calif.)
  2. Storage of critical files on portable computers and media is increasingly common, leaving key data at risk.
  3. The Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002 and other federal regulations require that certain types of data are backed up and archived.
  4. As businesses grow more dependent on digital record keeping, the consequences of permanent data loss become more severe.

Four questions:

  1. Have your data storage and backup needs changed?
  2. Do your data backups include all of your company’s critical data?
  3. Do federal regulations apply to your data policies & procedures?
  4. Are you confident that you could restore all vital data in the event of loss?
